Friesian at Liberty by Ink-DreamsMMIX Friesian at Liberty by Ink-DreamsMMIX
An oil painting of my favourite breed of horse, a Friesian.
It was done on a wood panel I salvaged from an old door.
It took a little over a month and a half to complete and roughly 130 hours.

For those interested here is a short tutorial as to how this artwork was done [link]

Here is a detail shot of the head link

I have also done a complimentary piece link

Size is 28.5cm x 38cm

My pleasure;).  I'm afraid I don't have much experience selling artwork nor would I tell anyone what there time is worth:).  I say this because when it comes to art most of the price is based on the amount of labour that went into its creation.

Well you have my teacher to thank for that;). I can't say that I'm all that talented, it is merely a study of a photograph and I did receive a lot of help from tutor.

I wouldn't say that, there was a lot of measuring which got rather tedious and it still is quite different to the original. Any way I'm glad you like it:).

Yeah I get that a lot, I've shown people the painting and they've asked "Where did you take that":D to which I answer "It hasn't left here before";).
Sorry that's are rather poor attempt at homour.

Thanks, though I must say, at the moment I have none and I'm not sure if I can even conceive of do a painting like this at the moment. Stamina is something that has to be built up over time.

I alway have a uncomfortable feeling when i just completed something i love and have to think about starting again from scratch.. so it is understandable!

Same here, it's sometimes difficult to declare a work finished at times. I used to get around this by working on two paintings at the same time usually starting the second halfway through the first. I do this because I don't enjoy the under painting stage but I openly acknowledge it's importance.

yeah most the time when I paint I have two oils going also.. sometimes you just need to take a breath away from one piece and think about another!

The other reason is oil paint can take up to a fortnight between layers depending on the surface and the pigment used.

Thanks, glad you like:). Well having only dabbled with acrylics after falling in love with my oil paints, I can't say they are more difficult to work with but the techniques and drying times vary considerably.
